Meet the new ProMom
Why Sheila and I rebuilt ProMom around where you are, and what changes when you open the app.
By Leon Farasati ·

You can leave an appointment feeling prepared and still have another question by the time you get home. Finding the answer often means searching several places, then working out which advice applies to you.
We know that feeling well. It is the reason ProMom exists. The new ProMom, our fertility and pregnancy app for iPhone, is live in the App Store now. We rebuilt it around your stage and what you have shared, so you can see what needs your attention, prepare for appointments, and keep your information in one place from trying to conceive through your baby’s first two years.

Why we started
My wife and co-founder, Sheila Nasehi, and I decided to grow our family in June 2022. A month later, her first pregnancy ended in an early loss. Over the next year we went through a long fertility journey, leaning on apps, devices, and a lot of searching for answers.
Sheila became pregnant again in August 2023. Within a few months, doctors found a serious medical complication, and we moved to the Bay Area for specialized care. Our son was born healthy in March 2024. You can read the full timeline on our story page.
Through all of it we kept running into the same problem. Information was scattered across apps and websites, and even after we found an answer, we had to work out whether it fit our situation. What we needed was one place we could trust.
We founded ProMom in January 2024 to build it, and we came to the work with the right backgrounds. Sheila is our CTO, a serial CTO and co-founder with more than 12 years of experience leading AI-driven products across fintech, healthcare, education, and construction. I lead product. I have spent more than 20 years in product leadership, including as Director of Product at NVIDIA, Qualcomm, and Perceive, and I earned a master’s degree in management science and engineering from Stanford while working at NVIDIA.
ProMom has to be technically sound and clinically careful at the same time. Sheila leads how it is built, and I lead what it does and how it feels to use. We built it for the version of ourselves who was searching for it in 2022. You can meet the rest of the people behind it on our team page.
We opened our first beta in March 2025 and launched the full app in August 2025. This release is a rebuild of that foundation, shaped by what we have learned since.
Most of motherhood happens between appointments
What we lived through is common. Prenatal care has traditionally been delivered as 12 to 14 in-person visits across a pregnancy, according to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). After birth, ACOG notes that as many as 40% of women do not attend a postpartum visit. Your questions do not follow that schedule. They come up at night, between visits, and often when there is no one to ask.
More people are turning to AI for those answers. In a KFF poll published in March 2026, about a third of U.S. adults (32%) said they had used AI chatbots for physical or mental health advice in the past year. When an answer is that easy to get, where it comes from matters.
What went into this release
We have been working on this rebuild since early 2026. It meant rethinking how you get started, what you see when you open the app, and how your profile, calendar, and tools work together.
When we started the redesign, I had a clear picture of the finished app, and that picture changed a lot. We even cut a feature we had spent months on. The data behind it was not good enough yet, and we were not going to put that in front of you.
For example, knowing your pregnancy week should change the guidance you see. Your dietary preferences should carry through to meal planning. When your baby arrives, you should be able to continue with the history you already have.
What changes when you open the app
Your dashboard now leads with Today’s Focus, a timely next step based on your current phase. It might be getting ready for an appointment or recording something relevant to your stage. For You brings forward guidance based on your stage and what you have tracked.
The calendar brings appointments, events, tasks, routines, and health logs together, so you can see what is coming up and return to what you have recorded. Optional Google Calendar sync, a Premium feature, helps you fit it around the rest of your schedule.
Apple Health sync is also optional, and it stays off until you turn it on. More integrations are on the way.
This is the change I most want you to notice: you should spend less time searching through the app to find what applies to you.
Prepare for your next appointment
An appointment can go quickly. You may remember a question afterward, or arrive unsure what information to bring.
VisitPrep helps you prepare for visits across your stage. It explains what to expect, helps you organize your health information, and suggests questions you can customize for your provider. In early pregnancy, that can mean getting ready for your first prenatal appointment. Later, it can mean preparing for a pediatric visit. You have somewhere to organize what you want to discuss before you are in the exam room.
From what is safe to what is for dinner
Knowing what you can eat still leaves you with dinner to figure out. MealSense creates recipes and meal plans around your stage, dietary preferences, restrictions, and allergies. You can plan around ingredients already in your pantry and build a grocery list from your choices.
It works alongside BellySafe, where you can check a food or ingredient the moment a question comes up. Both draw on the context you have already shared, so you have less to enter again.
Support that changes as you do
While you are trying to conceive, ProMom helps you record your cycle and symptoms, see fertile-window estimates, and keep a history you can refer back to. Those estimates are not a confirmation of ovulation.
During pregnancy, the same app includes BellySafe, Kick Counter, and Contraction Timer, and Maia answers your questions anywhere in the app, informed by your week and what you have logged.
After birth, ProMom keeps your recovery in view alongside your baby’s care. You can track your mood, rest, and nutrition, while Baby Tracker keeps records of feeding, sleep, diapers, and growth. Support continues through your baby’s first two years.
Your account and history stay with you as you move between stages. You can also start at any of them. If you are new after your baby is born, you can begin in postpartum without having used ProMom during pregnancy.
What clinical governance means in practice
When a question comes up at 2 am, you should not have to work out whether the answer is trustworthy. ProMom is clinically governed. Our Medical Advisory Team of OB-GYNs, fertility specialists, pediatricians, and other reproductive health clinicians approves the clinical sources ProMom draws from, sets the standards that guidance has to meet, and reviews samples of Maia’s answers for quality control on a recurring basis.
Safety rules approved by that team run before Maia responds. When a defined red flag is triggered, those rules determine the instruction to contact your provider or emergency services. The escalation is never the AI’s judgment call.
The Medical Advisory Team does not read every answer. It governs the system that produces them. ProMom supports and informs. It does not diagnose or replace your provider, and it will encourage you to reach out when something needs clinical attention. You are the ultimate authority on your body, and ProMom will never discourage you from seeking medical attention.
This governance covers the guidance and health information in ProMom. It does not cover every feature, such as NameSpark for baby names. You can meet the clinicians behind this work on our team page.
Your information stays yours
Personalization depends on the information you choose to share, so protecting it is part of the job. ProMom has no ads in the app. Your data is never sold and never used to train AI models.
Service and AI providers do process some of your information to make ProMom work, and they do so under strict agreements. Our privacy policy and health data notice explain what we collect, how it is used, and how to delete your account and the information associated with it.
